Africa’s current rapid emergence as the world’s largest free trade area makes it incredibly fertile ground for innovators and SMEs to develop and deploy new technologies designed to solve key, high priority challenges in the mega-cities of tomorrow.
We are looking for 6 UK SMEs to partner with their most impressive local counterparts in some of Africa’s most rapidly emerging cities:
▲ Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg in South Africa, and
▲ Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu in Kenya
The Urban Links Africa is underpinned by the concept of equitable partnerships and driven by the ideal of creating two-way knowledge-sharing and innovation catalysation between the UK and the selected African cities.
What next? A project timeline…
The Urban Links Africa project is moving quickly. City workshops are already underway to identify each city’s needs – you can follow the progress of this discovery phase by reading our blogs here.
Having identified the needs of each city, there will be a short open call process during which UK SMEs will be invited to submit their proposals. If you want to be sure not to miss the open call, complete our Expression of Interest questionnaire, which can be found here.
Next project milestones:
▲ Feb – March: Workshopping with cities and their ecosystems
▲ Mid-Late March: Open Call for SME proposals
▲ End March: SME selection
▲ April – October: SMEs deploy their tech solutions
